Final Baby Name Choices

So here's what we think are the finals for a boy or girl. Not that they couldn't change I guess from now until August, but for now, we are settled on these two.

For a boy: George Bruce Thomas
It's not the best in terms of 'flowage' but it has great meaning as a son would be named after 2 great grandpa's and 1 grandpa. It is Greek in origin and means 'tiller of soil.' Hard working. Cool. Bruce is Celtic for woods. It sounds really good with Henry too.

And to name a couple of other great great George's since some people are funny with the name:
George Washington (Best president ever!)
George Harrison (always my favorite beatle)
George Strait (king of country music)
George Ruth (one of the best baseball players of all time-and he did it withOUT steroids-he was a bit of a party boy-but no ones perfect)
Curious George-cool little monkey character
George McCann (awesome kid I used to babysit)
George Washington Carver (amazing scientist who came up with 40 some odd ways to use peanuts, other than in foods and is credited with the invention of PB today...the Mayans or some people had it, but it was just straight smashed peanuts with oil and wasn't the tastiest. George made PB yummy!)
George Albert Smith (great modern day prophet)
and the list goes on...

Here's for a girl: Jane ______ Thomas
We don't have a middle name set yet. Some middle name ideas floating around are Catherine, Elizabeth, and Mary. Jane is Hebrew and means gracious-also cool. There isn't family meaning behind this one necessarily, but we love it. It is simple, elegant, pretty and is old fashioned-which we both like. It's cute for a little girl, but sophisticated for an adult. It sounds great with Thomas, and with Henry too. We like the nickname Janie as well.

Some great Janes:
Jane Emig (my grandma-very talented artist and quite funny)
Jane Eyre (I LOVE her character...and funny as it is, she is very gracious)
Jane Austen (a superb author)
Jane Bennett (character in Pride and Prejudice-very good woman)
Jane Goodall (courageous scientist who studied gorillas-if you haven't seen Gorillas in the Mist, go rent it!)

Random funny thought-both of our name picks are the parents of the Jetsons (80's cartoon).

If you love flowers...

46 out of 50 of the daffodils I planted in the fall came up! And 42 of them bloomed! My hard work paid off-and I sware flowers look prettier and smell sweeter when you've planted them yourself! I'm not sure why the others came up with no flower, but this was my first time planting EVER, so I'm very happy and proud of my work. Most of the striped squills came up too (little blue bunch flowers). They didn't turn out quite as nice as I thought they would though. And apparently they come up the same time as the daffodils (not like the package said) to my dismay.
I'm going to read online how to move the bulbs because right now they are just inbetween the daffodils. Oops.
With all the horrible weather, we've had to help them a little not to die due to frost, freezing rain, snow, etc...and they did really great, until just this weekend. It was so cold, and the winds were VERY strong in this extremely flat state, that they aren't standing up too well anymore. They are still pretty, and still smell like honeysuckles (if you've never smelled a daffodil you should) but they appear to be trying to kiss the ground. Poor flowers. So here are the pictures of my first planting (in our backyard seeing as the front barely gets sun):

"Oh no! Please don't come up yet-it's going to snow tomorrow!"

To the left of our door. I wish I had some pictures of our saving methods. But here's what we did when they were small enough to cover. When they were buds, we used old towels. Success. When they looked more like in this picture, we used old milk jogs, pb jars, dish soap jars, and basically anything to cover them and protect them from the snow. It looked pretty funny for a week or so.

To the right.

Spring is coming...oh wait...more freezing rain and snow. (I'm so cheesy that I even said a prayer askign for my flowers to survive.)

These are the striped squills. As soon as the flowers bloom, they fall over. Dumb. And the one downfall about flowers...where you found flowers, you will find bees.

To the left of the house-how exciting for us!!

Unfortunately, one of the only white ones on the left side of the hosue Henry squished. As I was taking the picture he fell right onto them. Luckily he was fine, and only busted one flower, which now sits in a pretty vase on our kitchen table.

Henry falling on the flowers.

Some are still opening up.

Droopy after the storms.

But we still love them! Aren't yellow flowers such happy flowers!?

We're still working on getting a hose rack. And we're going to buy the garden bricks to make our little flower garden even nicer! We're really excited about finally being able to have a garden of our own!
